Tax abatement can Unite the World

I have been reading lately about a couple of businesses that are fighting with the cities or counties about whether or not they should pay their taxes. I thought the articles in the papers were pretty well written. They seemed to give me a clear picture of the positions, where the fights were at (court or some other board) and the positions of the two sides.

Then I went on to read the comments posted below. I was amazed at the divisiveness of the posters. You could read the absolute polarization of the opinions, no balance what so ever. It makes me wonder, when did we become such a stupid society. When did we simply stop caring about what was real, that there are always different perspectives, but central facts, things that are objectively true, when denied, simply make your position laughable.

I don't know how old the earth is. I don't. I understand the argument from one side that the Earth is millions or billions of years old. The other extreme is 6,000 years. Both might be right if certain facts are dismissed or ignored. Time is relative. The measurement of time is artificial. We as a people decided that one day was the cycle of the sun combined with the need to sleep to rejuvenate our bodies. We have called getting up as or just after the sun comes up and going to bed shortly after the sun sets as the normal day. However, we also know that some people are wired differently and feel their bodies having the most energy during the time the sun sets. So, if we call it a day based on the lunar period and the year based on the revolution of the sun, then time is only an artificial sub-structure of that. We decided to make it 24 hours. I could have been made 10 hours or 40 hours or whatever equal parts.

So, when we measure the speed of light, which is one of the biggest arguments for the age of the Earth - - you know, Big Bang still happening and if we can see it and light travels at a certain time element, then it must be x amount of time old and therefore, the Earth is x old. That number would have changed if we would have chosen a different way to express time. So, the people who call the Earth 6000 years old aren't necessarily wrong. They are still trying to convey that Earth is old. But, because we are taking written works older than the Greek expressions of time, we are trying to reconcile history or lore written BEFORE we agreed on how to explain time with conventions put in place afterwards.

Therefore, without thinking about it, those on the left scoff at those who hold to their religious beliefs. Our society completely discounts ALL of what they stand for because they might or MIGHT NOT be wrong about fundamental facts. Conversely, those who speak with religious fervor totally discount those with left-leaning views that also might or MIGHT NOT be incorrect.

Rather than discounting one another, we should take the time to reflect and understand. Before once again running the same old rhetoric up the pole, perhaps we should find someone with scholarly knowledge, WHO IS ALSO WILLING to concede they might not be absolutely ALWAYS without fail, to ask questions and to challenge the truth and veracity of the facts. It is by getting to FACTS that everyone can agree upon, that we can repair the fabric of our society, reduce the polarization of the populace, return to a time of unity. All this from a newspaper article about stupid tax abatement's.

Lets Give This a Try

Well, I have been thinking about doing this for a while.

I have a lot of things to say and in the primordial hell that is Kansas and not a lot of open ears to listen. Politics and Comedy, a natural thing if you are thinking about stand-up comedy. But I don't know if that is what I want to do with this. I have some real ideas about the political world, what is wrong with America, how to fix it. I also love to make people laugh, I love being outrageous for a laugh, to bring about a big smile, plus, I am very quick witted, if I do say so myself. Combine that with my smarts, the people I have met throughout my life, my education, and I end up having much to say about nothing. So, hold on to your f*(#ing hat, ( I hope I can say it that way cause if not, my vocabulary has been severely limited) fasten your seat belts. I hope this will be a fun thing for me to write and for you to read.
